Wholesale Compostable Packaging for QSR Chains

Wholesale Compostable Packaging for QSR Chains

Quick-service chains need packaging that can be applied consistently across shifts and locations. A good program is not defined by a broad “commercial grade” label; it is defined by menu-specific standards, an approved sample, repeatable packing instructions and a clear process for changes.

Design the standard around the menu architecture

Group menu items by packaging job: handheld sandwich, bowl meal, side dish, dessert and delivery bundle. For each group, define the fill target, portion dimensions, service time, closure method, carrier and disposal wording. This lets the sourcing team compare formats against the same operating requirement.

Make trials repeatable

Use an evaluation sheet with the product reference, food temperature, fill level, hold time, carrier, route and staff feedback. Repeat a test at more than one location if kitchens or delivery conditions differ. An informal thumbs-up can start a pilot, but it is not a durable chain-wide specification.

Control product changes

Set a rule that a change to the base, lid, drawing, carton or claimed document scope must be reviewed before rollout. Keep the prior approved sample and record why the new version was accepted. This is especially important where packaging claims appear on a menu, app listing or printed carton.

Connect operations to purchasing

Share forecast volume, carton storage limits and destination requirements early. Purchasing can then obtain a quote that names the selected configuration and operations can prepare staff guidance around the same item.

Use the wholesale sourcing program to frame an RFQ, build a shortlist from all product references, and review disposal language in the claims guide.
