Documentation Checklist for Foodservice Packaging

Use this page to request and assess current documents for the exact SKU, base, lid, coating, label and destination market you plan to source. This page does not itself certify a product or establish that every catalog configuration meets a standard.

Start with the product configuration

01

Drawing & pack

Request the current drawing, mold/version reference, material description, dimensions, tolerances, lid or accessory code and unit/carton pack.

02

Food contact

Ask for information applicable to the intended food, temperature, contact time and destination market. A regulation reference is not, by itself, a product approval.

03

PFAS evidence

Ask for a product-specific manufacturer declaration and laboratory report. Review the method, reporting limit, sample identity and whether the statement is about total fluorine or a defined PFAS method.

04

Compostability

Verify the certificate holder, covered product configuration and destination scope. Commercial-only certification must not be represented as home-compost certification.

05

Market records

Confirm any destination-specific declarations, labeling and importer requirements with your compliance team or broker.

06

Order traceability

Save the approved sample, drawing, quotation, batch references and document copies with the purchase order.

How to interpret common references

Food-contact rules: regulations describe conditions under which materials may be used; buyers still need evidence for the selected materials and use case.

Compostability: BPI describes commercial-only and commercial-plus-home certification scopes separately. A home claim requires appropriate home-compost scope; local collection acceptance is a separate operational question.

Laboratory reports: a report should identify the sample and method. Avoid changing a screening result into a broader “zero” or all-SKU claim.

Useful independent starting points: BPI certification scope, 21 CFR 176.170, and the FDA food-contact substances overview.

Request documents with an RFQ

Include the SKU, selected base/lid components, destination market, intended food use, expected temperatures and quantities. We can confirm which current documents and samples are available for review before an order is placed.
